Hey lovelies! ☺️
I hope everyones weekend is off to a great start! Mines just beginning & I’m snug on the sofa with some homemade chips in the oven! What a dream Saturday night in! 🙌🏻
So I wanted to share with you what staples I keep in my cupboard/fridge! These are things that are going to hopefully make creative cooking easier for you and cover you for a ton of vegan recipes! 👍🏻 I’ll include a link to each item, to help you identify the product, alongside details of common uses! I'm using the top links that come up for speed but most of these things will be available in your local health food shop!
This post is covering my cupboard staples for savoury meals and focusing on the bare essentials (there's a lot more you'll want in your cupboards i'm sure!) and ingredients that I believe will come in handy again and again!
Vegetable Stock Powder - Great for soups and sauces...my favourite is the organic vegan bouillon but any stock powder will do the job!
Nutritional Yeast - Great for adding a cheesy taste to food! Some people like to sprinkle it onto their meals, but I mainly use it for sauces! ☺️ Currently available in Aldi!
Coconut Oil - All rounder, great for roasting, baking & frying...this particular one is great if you don't want the coconut taste sneaking in!
Toasted Sesame Oil - I eat a lot of Asian food and this is a must! So delicious! I often buy Waitrose own brand as it's really well priced!
Soy Sauce or Tamari - Great for most noodle dishes but also a great flavour enhancer! This is a product which varies a lot from one brand to another... I would 100% recommend Kikkoman brand for both soy and tamari and if you think you're going to use them a lot then I'd recommend checking your local oriental supermarket as they're usually available in bigger bottles!
Rice Vinegar or Mirin - I use these a lot in noodle dishes but they’re also great for chutneys and dressings! My favourite is the clearspring brown rice vinegar!
Cashew Nuts - Amazing for all kinds of dairy replacements...milk, cream, cheese (cream cheese, spreads, parmesan...) and also delicious toasted in stir fry’s! 😍 I often buy in bulk from Real Food Source but Aldi is also well priced for nuts and seeds!
Miso - This is my secret ingredient for almost everything! It started as a noodle soup essential, but now I use white miso as a flavour enhancer for a ton of different dishes! It’s amazing in cream sauces, risotto, gravy, soups! My favourite is the clearspring sweet white miso :)
Noodles - Fill up your cupboards with a selection of various noodles, they come in so many different types that you can never get board of them! (Well I can’t!!) I always have a stash of udon, rice noodles, wholewheat noodles & ramen! 😍 My favourite are these biona ramen noodles...
Pasta - Who doesn’t keep pasta in the cupboard? It’s so versatile and great for a speedy dins! I'm a big fan of the new fresh pasta in Waitrose!
Rice - Sushi rice, risotto rice, jasmine rice, whole grain rice...all the rice! It works for pretty much all cuisines! 👌🏻 My favourite is probably short grain brown rice, this can be used for sushi but it's also delicious with curry and fried!
Peanut Butter - Satay sauce...the dream! Use it for stir frys, dressings, as a snack, on toast! My favourite is probably Pip and Nut, but take your pick!
Agave/Sweetener of choice - great for dressings and marinades! I often use the meridian blue grade agave!
Liquid smoke - amazing for marinades, creating vegetable ‘bacon’ and Mexican food! My favourite is Stubbs!
A good selection of herbs, spices & seasonings - My most frequently used are...
I also love having on hand...
I hope this list comes in handy! And please feel free to ask any questions in the comments below and reach out if you need help with any other alternatives! 🙏🏻
Thank you for reading and happy cooking! ☺️
